Had they become just words?Once upon a time they had been born of an Eden world long since consumed by their sun, Sol. When it became too crowded some pushed outward to Mars. The histories, stories and legends tell how the first Martians fought for the right to terraform their home and make it more live-able. Many of Earth felt Mars should remain untouched and unspoiled. When Earth was consumed, she had to wonder, did the Martians feel vindicated or horrified? There was little love lost between the two, but somethings you shouldn't wish on your worst enemy. She looked through the telescope. Mars was a molten cinder now. it's orbit only barely outside the growing coronasphere of Sol. All the once proud achieve
First Impressions Ch 1CH-1, First ImpressionsThey say that first impressions are important. First impressions, I can't help but smile as I think about that as the thief in front of us walks closer. Well dressed for a thief. There are two more thieves coming around the sides. One to the left, one to the right. I almost didn't notice them though the thick spiny thorn infested bushes they call trees down here. Almost. but it doesn't matter, I can't run and leave Gwen, we're out numbered, again, and wouldn't be able to fight with these odds.I hang my head and start to laugh. How could it possibly get worse. The man approaching in front stops and shouts in anger, "YOU THINK THIS IS FUNNY?!?!""No, but you're not the first thief to stop us since we left our home in the Northlands, and to be honest, I've lost count." Our home, if it were still our home we wouldn't be in this God forsaken country.Gwen walked
The Road in Ch 2CH-2 The Road InFor the first few miles or so no one said a word. The only sounds were those of foot steps on the road. Gwen and my foot steps. Michael and his people apparently walked with complete silence when they wanted to. After following and watching a while I realized it was from a combination of carefully choosing where they stepped and making a conscious effort to always place and pick up their feet vertically. If they dragged their feet and made noise as Michael had done earlier, it was to help mask the noise of others. When ever Gwen or I would stumble they gave us stares as if we had called down a den of thieves upon us. Their technique was something we could learn, but would take a bit of practice. After months on the road I was just too tired. It would have to wait for the moment. From time to time they would leave the road, taking a more protected path or higher ground.
